Armstrong Electropolishing Advantages

  • Appearance: Electropolishing gives metal a lustrous, bright finish that enhances its natural shine. It can also eliminate or minimize stains, heat discoloration, and minor scratches.
  • Corrosion resistance: Electropolishing removes surface imperfections, which makes it harder for moisture and contaminants to adhere to the metal and cause corrosion.
  • Reduced friction: Electropolishing can reduce friction between moving metal parts.
  • Improved heat transfer: Electropolishing can improve heat transfer efficiency in heat exchangers.
  • Easier sanitation: Electropolishing can make it easier to clean parts and components, sometimes by as much as 50 percent.
  • Improved weldability: Electropolishing can improve weldability without affecting surface hardness or introducing stresses to parts.
  • Non-mechanical process: Electropolishing is a non-mechanical process, so no tools come in contact with the part, which means no polishing lines.
  • No risk of distortion: Electropolishing does not risk distorting the material.

What is Electropolishing?

Electropolishing is an advanced electrochemical process—often referred to as “reverse plating”—that removes a thin layer of surface material from a metal part. Unlike traditional mechanical polishing, which can smear or embed contaminants, electropolishing dissolves the outer layer of metal uniformly at a microscopic level. This process smooths out surface irregularities, removes burrs, and eliminates embedded impurities, resulting in a cleaner, brighter, and more corrosion-resistant finish. At Armstrong Nautical, we use electropolishing to enhance both the appearance and performance of our stainless steel marine components, ensuring they meet the highest standards of durability and precision.
